Hi TimeBankers!

It's been a lovely, temperate week in the Ozarks. We had a wonderful turnout at our 8/18 Open Meeting and there is an exciting new Volunteer Opportunity coming up in September.
We've got 85 members now!
We just need some more help coordinating things so we can help you all to make the best use of our TimeBank, so please read and consider the Special Announcement below.

I'm trying a new format this time, with our local TimeBank data listed first, per request from Mary Wise, who thought you all might rather see that first instead of all the other news. A Table of Contents has been added in the next section after the greeting. . Please let me know if this new format appeals to you.
I'm working on streamlining the broadcasts, and thinking maybe a Yahoo Group might be a good idea for TimeBankers who want to connect more with each other. We could post information there instead of putting it all in the Broadcasts..(Hopefully the new website will have all the features we need, when it's ready.)

Thanks. Natalie

2.LOCAL TIMEBANK NEWS

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
TIMEBANK IS GROWING AND NEEDS MORE HELP WITH COORDINATING/ASSISTING

There is so much more our TimeBank could be doing, but we need help coordinating it before that can happen.
We are up to 85 members now, and could really use a dedicated new coordinator or two, or some reliable assistants who can make an ongoing commitment.
We especially need someone who can help with website and computer challenges and is good with recording detailed information. It's not a lot of work, but it would really help us to keep things running smoothly.
Someone with some enthusiasm for the kind of community that TimeBank is helping create, who likes doing technical work and who can help us hold a grounded space would be wonderful.

We also need another coordinator or assistant with volunteer projects. That's a more outgoing, fun kind of task for the more gregarious type of individual.
If either appeals to you, please give us a ring!

Being a coordinator provides a great opportunity to get to know more folks in our community and be of service in a very “new paradigm” context.
Coordinators and Assistants both will earn TimeBank hours for their contributions.

Mary Wise is in the process of revising and amping down her commitment to coordinating, so we really need some people to step up soon. She was helping with both volunteer and website, computer and data recording work. Jay is stepping up to help fill the gap, but we still need more help.

Please call Natalie, Patrice or Jay if you can help or even if you just want to nominate someone you think has “the right stuff”! (For contact info, see the last section of this broadcast under Helpful TimeBank Links.)
THANK YOU!!

REMINDER: To continue operating TimeBank successfully, members MUST be willing to step up and help with the work the Coordinating team does. It's a group effort, all the way around. Please help your TimeBank keep on keeping on.

OPEN MEETING 8/18: 27 ATTENDING

We had 18 TimeBank members attending our 8/18 Open Meeting, and 9 guests, including Shelley Buonaiuto, Martin Jordan and Mary Lilly from Fayetteville who are involved in creating a new TimeBank chapter there.

We were entertained and informed by an amusing skit that Melanie Linker put on with Deerwomon's help about eco-friendly housecleaning, Becky Gillette's helpful presentation about deer fencing with bamboo, and Alexa's presentation on help with Carpel Tunnel Syndrome.

Thanks to everyone for showing up, and especially to our presenters Deerwomon, Melanie Linker, Alexa Pittenger and Becky Gillette.

Unfortunately, there was a technical problem and we were unable to present the Youtube video show about TimeBanks around the world as planned, but we will get that straightened out and show it at a future meeting.
Also, we hope Marty Falkenstein will be able to give her presentation on permaculture another time.
We also heard from new member Deerwomon about her new EarthDance project (see details below).

TIMEBANK VOLUNTEEERING AT EARTHDANCE
AND THE TIMEBANK FLOAT

It seems like such a natural fit, and so we would love to have some TimeBank volunteers (kids included!) help build our TIMEBANK float at this event. It could be part of the live, global Webcast, which would certainly be exciting for the kids! TimeBank will pay for the materials needed, or if anyone would like to donate some, please let Jay know.
TimeBank members who would like to volunteer materials, time helping with the float or with various other duties for the event such as ticket taking, kidcare, firekeepers, organizing, trash, etc. please contact Jay Vrenacek at wldwm2@msn.com or call 479 363 6029.

TimeBank hours will be awarded, as always, and LOTS OF HOURS CAN BE GENERATED AT THIS EVENT!! Volunteers will not be required to pay admission.

NOTE: There may be a special meeting of TimeBank volunteers for the EarthDance Eureka Springs in September. We will keep you posted.

SPECIAL NOTE: CREATE YOUR OWN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

You may have noticed in the New Transactions section that some members have been earning TimeBank hours by attending community meetings, giving talks for various groups, and so on.
We want all members to understand that everyone in TimeBank can earn hours by giving community service, and you don't have to wait until the Coordinators have provided a Volunteer Opportunity. You can create your own now!

If there is an event or meeting you would like to attend or a service you would like to perform for the community to earn TimeBank hours, please let one of the Coordinators know what it is so we can approve it and help you record your hours.

We can't guarantee that we will approve every request. (For example, singing at a Karaoke bar would not really be considered community service, no matter how great your singing voice may be! :)
But events that have to do with building community, essential services to others, especially as related to sustainability. are good candidates.

TimeBanking is different from regular banks in that we are HAPPY to give hours away, so please don't be shy!

Q: Why did you join TimeBank?
A: “To promote re-localization of the economy.”
Q: Your favorite way to spend time?
A: “Gardening.”
Q: Favorite food/place to eat?.
A: “I like to eat fresh out of my garden. Favorite place to be in town? I enjoy riding my bike through town early in the morning.”
Q: Favorite person and why?
A: “I think Patrice Gros, of Foundation Farm, is pretty cool because he is such a master. I’ve learned a lot from him.”
Q: If there was one thing you would like to see in Eureka, what would it be?
A: “I’d like to see a windmill on top of the Jesus statue, one of those vertical axis pinwheel types- to generate electricity.”

A: “I hope something that I have no conception of, something I’ve never even imagined. “
Q: What TimeBank services are you offering?
A: “I am offering service as an energy descent consultant to help people save themselves money and save all of us from the runaway climate disruption that is now the most likely outcome of a business-as-usual scenario.
Two thirds of the climate problem is individual wasteful consumption, so its fixable with your help. To get the global shakin' with the local, I’m working with Bill McKibben and Bianca Jagger to the support the Global Climate Day of Action on Oct. 24. See
http://www.350eureka.org .
