Apologies. I absent mindedly posted this in the Open Forum first instead of here, which is where I usually put it.

Hi TimeBankers,

It was a quiet week for TimeBanking except for behind the scenes, with Jay V. busy getting volunteers signed up for the Penny Carnival and EarthDance. Autumn leaves are beginning to make their appearance, but there is lots coming up still this year for TimeBankers.
We have enough volunteers now signed up for the Penny Carnival. Many thanks to Mary Wise, Bev Wilkinson and Alexa Pittenger, who will be minding our TimeBank table at Basin Spring Park on 9/19&20, and to other members who volunteered.
EarthDance Eureka Springs 9/26, is still in need of some volunteers.
More details on that & on the TimeBank paper mache Piggy Bank in Section 3.
A Special Feature in this broadcast in Section 2; an interview with our new Technical Coordinator, Danny Turner.

2.LOCAL TIMEBANK NEWS:
Special Feature:
Interview with Danny Turner, our new Technical Coordinator:
Q: Why did you join TimeBank?

A: I joined Time Bank because I see it as a way to help my community and as a way to save money on services that I would normally have to spend cash on that I sometimes do not have.

Q: Your favorite way to spend time?:

My favorite way to spend time currently is with my children at the lake or just walking around even if it is inside Wal-Mart, I also like to do research I just completed a family tree that goes back to 1840 and gives every descendent from then forward. (Also found out that my family is part of the founding families of this area.)

Q: Favorite food/place to eat?

A. Hmmmm this is hard, I am a foodie to the core (Explains my shrinking clothes). I love the pizza at Forest Hill. And the burgers at the Crescent. Oh and the Calamari at Sparky’s (Only place I know of to get one of my favorite foods.)

Q:Favorite place to be in town?

A: Anywhere there is lots of people I can just sit back and observe.

Q: Favorite person and why?

A: It would have to be my Step-Dad. I never lived with him or my mom growing up (I never met my mother until I was 13) As a young adult he helped guide me through a few hard times I had and has made me most of what I am today. He once told me not to be a great man just to try and be a man my children can look up to. And for a man who never fathered any children he is a father anyone can be proud of. He helped raised us and always treated us as his own children.

Q: If there was one thing you would like to see in Eureka, what would it be?
A: Widen some of the roads. I hate driving a big truck in town LOL, No seriously something needs to be done about the deer situation. It is completely out of control at the moment. There is not enough of what they need to eat out in the wild to sustain a population of the size in that part of Carroll county. People need to stop seeing them as pets and realize these are wild animals and it is our responsibility to maintain the balance of nature where we live. Feeding them is actually pretty cruel in my eyes because it encourages them to come into town and the way some of the tourist drive around here it is a miracle there are not more Deer on Car accidents. I think a controlled population limiting program would be a good idea on that side of the county, either allow extra permits for bow hunting in certain areas to thin the population or a relocation program ( I believe the cost would be too great for this though.)

Q: Where, what will you be doing in 10 years?

A: I still see myself as a Citizen of Carroll County, doing what needs to be done to help my fellow man.

Q: What TimeBank services are you offering?

A: Currently Computer repair and upgrade services - I can offer a whole range of Computer related services from repair to software help, Auto-CAD, Photoshop, Digital Photography, Video transfer (VHS or other media to DVD), Graphic arts ETC ETC ETC….pretty much if it involeves a computer or art lab I can get it done. I have 2 state of the art computer workstations that I built myself for High end Video Editing and Photo shop work(and gaming LOL). I also have a full art studio and can work in almost any medium from pencil and marker to acrylic or oil paint. My wife is the main artist but I can do logos and anything else I can pull up on the computer and transfer to a work surface.

Thanks to Danny for giving us this opportunity to get to know him better, and for the work he has already done for TimeBank in a very short time. We look forward to working with him more.

TimeBank Piggy Bank

Eureka Spring's own Puppetmaster George Myers has agreed to lend us his expertise in creating the paper mache TimeBank Piggy Bank, which will be featured in future parades and events. Many thanks to George!
We are in touch with Clear Springs School about the possibility of their art teacher and young artists helping to create the piggy. We plan to put the finishing touches on it at EarthDance, with the help of the children who attend the event. More details asap.

You can also contact a coordinator for help.(See contact info in Section 5.)

Note: CREATE YOUR OWN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
You may have noticed in the New Transactions section that some members have been earning TimeBank hours by attending community meetings, giving talks for various groups, and so on. We want all members to understand that everyone in TimeBank can earn hours by giving community service, and you don't have to wait until the Coordinators have provided a Volunteer Opportunity. You can create your own!
If there is an event or meeting you would like to attend or a service you would like to perform for the community to earn TimeBank hours, please let one of the Coordinators know what it is so we can approve it and help you record your hours. We can't guarantee that we will approve every request.(For example, singing at a Karaoke bar would not really be considered community service no matter how entertaining your performance might be!
However, events that have to do with building community, essential services to others, especially as related to sustainability, are good candidates.
TimeBanking is different from regular banks in that we are HAPPY to give hours away, so
PLEASE CONSIDER WHAT OPPORTUNITY YOU MIGHT LIKE TO CREATE FOR YOURSELF! THANKS!
