2. LOCAL TIMEBANK NEWS:

TimeBank needs help with Volunteer Coordinating
Jay V. has stepped down from volunteer coordinating. Thanks to Jay for all her help, which has been much appreciated. .
We have assurance that Jackie Wolven and Raven Hill will be taking on volunteer coordinating this winter, but we may need some assistance until then.
We also need a Secretarial Coordinator, someone who is good with details, recording data, helping members with joining up, recording information on the website, etc.
If you would like to volunteer, you are welcome to attend our monthly coordinator meetings to learn more, or please email Natalie at onawah@gmal.com or call 479 365 3124.

Thanks!

3. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Community Day at the Eureka Farmers' Market

Heather Quinney reminded us that:
Community Day at the Eureka Farmers' Market is Thursday, Oct 8th from 8am - 12pm. Local non-profits and community organizations including TimeBank will participate by having a table or display, etc.
Danny Turner has volunteered to sit at our table. If you would like to assist, please contact Danny at 337-303-6447 or Alternate:870-480-8874 or email him at turnerpcrepair@cox.net

For more information about this event, please contact Heather at 479 244 5431 or email: heatherequinney@yahoo.com

RECYCLING DAYS, OCTOBER 17TH & MORE

This from June Easton: “On October 17th at the Gas Station on 62 West by the 187 turnoff, there is a community free recycling date. You may have read about this on Geekfest. Joe and I are already volunteering to assist on this day. I thought this would be a good project for the Time Bank.”

Danny Turner tells us that there are actually 3 of them (recycling dates) scheduled around in October. He plans on volunteering. As a group project some people getting together to strip out the metal and such could help to fund other time bank projects. And it keeps these (items) from going to a landfill.

You can contact Danny at turnerpcrepair@cox.net or call 337-303-6447 or alternate:870-480-8874 if you would like to help with this project.

“350” INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CLIMATE ACTION

This from organizer of the local event, Jerry Landrum:
“Eureka Springs is a “Cool City”, having signed the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement in 2007, the year the arctic melted far greater than it ever had before. Indeed, climate disruption is happening even faster than science had predicted, with recent studies suggesting that catastrophic temperature rise will occur unless we reduce atmospheric CO2 back below 350ppm.”

For details about the International event, see the official website:
http://www.350.org/
For the Eureka Springs event, go to: http://www.eureka350.org

This from the officialwebsite: “350 is the most important number in the world--it's what scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. On October 24, the International Day of Climate Action will cover almost every country on earth, the most widespread day of environmental action in the planet’s history. Thousands of community events will be taking place globally to raise awareness of the need for urgent action to change the negotiating environment as we head towards the crucial UN Climate Negotiations in Copenhagen in December of 2009.'

The event in Eureka Springs will begin at 10AM and go till 11PM. We will have a TimeBank table at Spring Basin Park along with Planet Home and Outdoor Alliance, from about 1-5PM.

TimeBank volunteers will be needed for several tasks. We need a volunteer to sit at our table for those 4 hours. (There will also be live music and speakers all afternoon at the Park.)

Help is also needed with managing some of the events, which include:

a. at 4PM, for 15 minutes or so, about 35 bodies will be needed to form a giant '350' which will be photographed for the 350 website.

b. Mountain St. Challenge--bikers to ride from the base to the top of Mountain St.--whoever reaches the top will be awarded prizes. This is for strong riders.

c. At 11am: 10 bikes, each riding 35 laps around the Courthouse. This is for any rider.

d. Flyers and poster to be distributed around town and to various businesses, churches, etc.

CELEBRATION! Music and dancing! All are invited to attend the 7PM potluck at Enthios and the premier showing of “ Eureka Green” the video, created by Becky Gillette.

The coordinator for the local event is Jerry Landrum. For more details, contact him at 479 253 6963 or email: jl_landrum@yahoo.com

Please remember to record your volunteer hours in your TimeBank account! All Volunteer service is rewarded with TimeBank hours. For help with signing up as a TimeBank volunteer or for help recording hours etc. see Section 5 for links & contact info.

4. OTHER LOCAL NEWS: REMINDERS: ALERTS and BROADCASTS, & 'CREATE YOUR OWN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES'

http://community.timebanks.org/group.php?mode=curr
If you would like to see any information from previous BROADCASTS, please remember that the broadcasts are posted regularly at Geekfest.com in the Self Sustainability Forum.
You can also contact a coordinator for help.(See contact info in Section 5.)
Note: CREATE YOUR OWN VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
You may have noticed in the New Transactions section that some members have been earning TimeBank hours by attending community meetings, giving talks for various groups, and so on. We want all members to understand that everyone in TimeBank can earn hours by giving community service, and you don't have to wait until the Coordinators have provided a Volunteer Opportunity. You can create your own!
If there is an event or meeting you would like to attend or a service you would like to perform for the community to earn TimeBank hours, please let one of the Coordinators know what it is so we can approve it and help you record your hours.

We can't guarantee that we will approve every request. (For example, singing at a Karaoke bar would probably not be considered community service, no matter how entertaining your performance might be! :)
However, events that have to do with building community, essential services to others, especially as related to sustainability, are good candidates. TimeBanking is different from regular banks in that we are HAPPY to give hours away, so please don't be shy!
