The Bush administration has turned Guantánamo into a place that is devoid of due process and the rule of law. It's a place where human beings can be imprisoned for life without being charged or tried, without ever seeing a lawyer, and without having their cases reviewed by a court. Congress and the courts should be uprooting this evil practice, but freedom and justice in the United States are on a post-9/11 downhill slide.

So we are stuck for the time being with the disgrace of Guantánamo, which will forever be a stain on the history of the United States, like the internment of the Japanese in World War II.

I urge you to show some genuine outrage over the conditions at GITMO.
People just disappear and appear there. No one knows where they went. Don't be secure in thinking this could not happen to you or someone you know.
Write your congressman. Write the WhiteHouse.
Take a stand and don't stop until this travesty ends.

Becky, it seems I heard the courts had decided it was illegal to keep anyone captive without benefit of representation or trial. I had understood that many of the so-called terrorists have been turned loose wholesale. Need to check further on this.

Reminds me of the Boat People from Cuba, all of their worst criminals poured right onto our shores.

Is "give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free" ever going to come to a halt?
