That was very kind of you to steer big mike in the right direction, PenDragon. 'Twas also good of you, big mike, to take PD's suggestion under advisement. Having worked as night auditor and other positions at several of the Historic Hotels in Eureka, it is so true that we are looked at as representatives of not only the hotel, but of Eureka Springs in general. There are quite a few people right here on this BBS that have been employed in the same capacity in the past and will tell you the same thing. I was always very honored to be able to work at these wonderful places.
I never had to kill time at work, though, as there was always something to do even after the audit was finished...time cards to calculate, mail outs to prepare, lobby to tidy up, brass to polish, old wood to wax and make shine, etc. Time well spent on the 8 hour 11 - 7 shift. Guess things could be different now, but it also wouldn't hurt to ask the boss what could be done to fill the time.

Speaking in the mundane, I'm another ex-N.O. front desk person who will echo DaBee's message about how valuable your lesson is for Big Mike. Those who work in the front lines, the wait people, bartenders, desk clerks, can absolutely make or break one's vacation. These people become tour guides on demand. By making himself knowledgeable about what's happening in Eureka, and putting forth a smiling, helpful attitude, Mike's behavior can contribute to the tourist's choice not only to return to Eureka, but to spread the word about what a sweet/fun place it is.

Oops! Don't want to forget about the shop/gallery people either, or I'll have a mouse on my tail :eek: and half the town, as well!!! :D
