While looking at a house, my brother asked the real estate agent which direction was north because, he explained, he didn't want the sun waking him up every morning. She asked, "Does the sun rise in the north?"
When another person jumped in and explained that the sun rises in the east (and has for some time), she shook her head and said, "Oh, I don't keep up with that stuff."
And then she voted.
===============
I used to work in technical support for a 24x7 call center. One day I got a call from an InDUHvidual who asked what hours the call center was open. I told him, "The number you dialed is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week." He responded, "Is that Eastern or Pacific time?" Wanting to end the call quickly, I said, "Pacific.."
And then he voted.
============
So my collea! and I were eating our lunch in our cafeteria when we overheard one of the administrative assistants talking about the sunburn she got on her weekend drive to the shore. She drove down in a convertible, but "didn't think she'd get sunburned because the car was moving."
And then she voted.
================
I was in a high school advanced physics class and the teacher was talking about a new military weapon that uses sonic waves on the battlefield to burst enemy soldier's chests. One InDUHvidual in the class spoke up and said, "Well that's stupid! Why don't they just wear headphones?"
And a few years later, he voted.
=============
My sister has a lifesaving tool in her car. It's designed to cut through a seatbelt if she gets trapped. She keeps it in the trunk.
And then she voted.
=================
My friends and I were on a beer run and noticed that the cases were discounted 10%. Since it was a big party,! we bought two cases. The cashier multiplied two times 10% and gave us a 20% discount.
And then they all voted.
================
I was hanging out with a friend of mine when we saw a woman walk by us with a nose ring attached to an earring by a chain. My friend said, "Wouldn't the chain rip out every time she turned her head?" I had to explain to her that a person's nose and ear remain the same distance apart no matter which way the head is turned.
And then she voted.
===============
I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area. So I went to the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because they were trained professionals and I was in good hands. "Now," she asked me, "has your plane arrived yet?"
And then she voted.

My mother-in-law thinks gambling is a sin and is against a lottery in Oklahoma but she hits the river boats in KC everytime she visits her mother in Kansas.
And then she voted.

She commented on the dillweed growing at the side of the road. He asked, "Do the pickles just hang off the ends of the branches?"
And then he voted.

I don't know about those liberal Democrats but this one particular gay person here is mighty hurt and broken hearted inside. Nothing like that kind of loving slap in my face to make me feel good. Thank you George, thank you Scott. Thank you for loving me as a fellow human being so much you voted for the man who will put me in a concentration camp.
Feel the pride for all you've done yet boys? May you recieve back all that you have given to others through your vote.

Hey Pen Dragon....I luv ya! As a friend! I really do...but George and I are just one vote each..........And I certainly am not ashamed for supporting George Bush. What do you say to the rest of the MAJORITY of voters not only in Carrol County (where I assume you live) but also the rest of the United States that seem to be voting Bush? Now I know nothing is final yet and Kerry could still pull it off....but look at the Electoral Map... Almost solid Red and also look at the numbers thus far....BUSH taking the POPULAR vote as well. I've said it before and I'll say it again...I have never agreed with everything Bush does or supports but I do believe as do the majority of Americans...he is the better man for the next four years. If he does indeed win.....then accept it...make the best of it and we can all start NOW seeking candidates for the next Presidential election. Hopefully candidates that will be good for our country.

I really don't mind all that much that Bush might win, he deserves the responsibility of cleaning up at least one mess that he made. Too bad there will be so much needless death in the process, so many lost loved ones on all sides.
No matter how this election turns out, all us outcasts, subversives and perverts will get together and have one hell of a party this weekend anyway, we will still love, accept and help each other, in spite of your repressive laws and fear-mongering. All you accomplished was to bring us all closer together, living the true Christian values of acceptance and non-judgement. Why don't you come on down AH and tell all these great people they don't deserve the same rights you have, face to face. Tell them they need to sacrifice their children to ausage your fear. We'll get along just fine without your support. In fact, having seen you show up in town without any friends so very many times, we are the winners, even when we lose. There is a loser in all this, and it ain't us Brad.
Love is but the song we sing, fear's the way we die.
You can make the mountains ring, see the angels fly.
Though the bird is on the wing, you may not know why......
Some may come and some may go, we must surely pass,
When the One who left us here, returns for us at last,
We are just a moments sunlight, fading on the grass.....
If you hear the song I sing, you might understand,
You hold the key to love and fear, in your trembling hand,
Just one key unlocks them both, it's there at your command.....
What we have come to share beats hiding alone in fear, hate, and darkness. Thank you my friends for all the love and light. It has been a hard fight, and you fought it well, with wisdom and clarity. Even in defeat, we prevail.
Gloat on Hillbilly, I'm laughing and loving. You have won nothing.

I invite you to come down Thursday night to the Copa and look me in the eye and say you are not ashamed of voting for a man who would refuse my spouse and I the right to some legal safe guards that you and your wife now enjoy just because you were born biologically male and female. I don't care if you are close personal friends with every single gay person on the face of the planet and you love them all dearly. You are not gay, you do not know what I/we have lived through and what kind of prejudice I/we have endured. Any more than I know what your life has been like. You cannot know what it feels like to know the President of the United States wants constitutionally amendment away the possibility of any legal protection you and your life partner might ever have.
You do not know what it feels like to worry that the Nazi neo-cons are going to come and take your children away and either shoot you or put you away in a concentration camp. Or both. You don't look at the Patriot Act and wonder how they will use that to put your sorry gay butt away forever.
The majority of people in this country were just happy as pigs in sh*t over segregation 40 years ago and looked the other way when little black children were murdered while attending a church function, were they right? Being in the majority does not make something morally right. Being in the majority does not make anyone right, not even me.
Financially Bush would be a better choice for me because all the Wall Street analysts agree, a Bush presidency tends to make Wall Street more confident (I've yet to experience this, but that's what they all say). So if I was a selfish pig I would have voted for that cruel, vile being just on my wallet alone. But I was willing to take a slower growth on my portfolio in exchange for an administration that had a little more compassion and love for the average American.
I have stayed out of the political BS on this BBS purposely over the last month or so. Why? Because it hurts my heart so freakin much to listen to people say they want a man with a Neo-Nazi administration running this country 4 more years. Are you LYAO that I actually cry over this kind of heartlessness? Is my broken heart funny Scott? Do you get a sadistic chuckle out of all my grief?
It appears as if none of you have a real heart. It appears you just don't give a flying flip about anyone except yourselves and your wallets. Appearences count. You wanna know why you piss so many people on this board off Scott? Because you appear heartless. And you know what? I know you aren't really heartless. But that is how you appear. These liberal bleeding hearts here on this board see you as heartless because you would vote for a man they percieve as heartless and cruel. Now do you get it? While you are yucking it up LMAOing at sh*t, people are shaking their heads sadly knowing that you and people just like you are going to determine the future of the world.
It hurts me deeply to know there are still people out there who don't give a rats ass that people like John Ashcroft can take away mine and your rights at any point, whenever he decides he wants. And all in the name of Jesus too boot. We are at the mercy of his whim and judgment. Did you think that if Bush was re-elected that he was going to get rid of Ashcroft or even Rumsfeld? When we no longer have any constitutional rights and they come and take our guns from us, don't you come crying to me that you screwed up.
It's incomprehensible to me that anyone who has a heart and knows the depths of real unconditional love could possibly support these people. It boggles my mind that anyone could have been persuaded by these loveless cretins that they are the ones to lead us as a people.
And yeah, I do know how Republicans think and feel. I used to be the biggest and best diehard fundamentalist christian Republican you could or would ever meet. I used to have an 8x10 foot poster of Richard Nixon on my bedroom wall. I had Alex P. Keaton beat by a mile. In many ways I still believe in some Republican ideals. But those ideals no longer exist because the party has evolved into some hideously deformed charade of a tent revival meeting and frankly it's scaring the living crap out of me at this point.
I don't expect you to understand or even care how this whole sorrid election and frankly, the last 4 frightening years has felt to me. Do I think Kerry is any better? They are both Bonesmen. They are both cut from the same cloth. They were both born and raised up for what they both are doing right now. But maybe Kerry would be just a little more compassionate. That was what I voted for. In the long run, none of them truly gives a rats ass about any of us, but at least there was a hope in Kerry that I might have the opportunity to feel for once in my life like a fully vest citizen with full citizenship rights, just like the ones you enjoy and take for grant it.
So yeah, I invite you down to spit in my face and kick me in the heart just a little more Scott. Have at it, folk like you have been having a field day with me my whole life. Enjoy that vote you are not ashamed of Scotty.

PenDragon, if we can figure out how to return to an embryonic state, we will gain the rights that are denied to all other classes of multi-celled organisms (a/k/a "living people.") Chances are slim that we'll be able to avail ourselves of this opportunity because it's looking like another win for the anti-science President. But the great wheel of Karma never fails to turn ... so, sooner or later, we'll have the opportunity to participate in the clinical trial that will allow us to reduce ourselves to the gamete/zygote level that so inspires the tender mercies of our conservative brethren.
You (and I) have been advised this evening that our state, and our nation, finds people like you and me to be beneath contempt. But I don't think it's anything personal, really.
I've been following the MO Governor election too and, at the moment, it looks like McCaskill is losing. If you are a fan of pig radio, as I am, you would know that this is because Claire McCaskill fought against the gay marriage amendment and she is, therefore, the Enemy of Missouri Values. Why, she is more Liberal than Hilary Clinton! (according to pig radio). Clearly, this is an Issue that trumps paltry, worldly, 3-D concerns. We live in a complicated world and, when we get confused by worldly complications, we all need a banner to rally 'round ... don't we? Tag! We're IT!
All night, all morning, I've been watching the news ... waiting to see how this election would go ... and the CNN talking heads have been wringing their hands and crying, "How could we be so wrong!?!? The national polls, the exit polls, every single bit of pre-election information we had is wrong!"
Except for the Values-Vote. So far, that's the only thing that's Right.
Earlier this evening, one of the CNN 'Heads wailed, "Could the gay marriage issue really be a deciding factor!??!"
Well ... duh. And in a word: Yes.
A number of influential members of Bush's own Republican Party have criticized his execution of the Iraq War. We have apparently just served the world community with divorce papers, and there is a whole bipartisan contingent who worries about that. Our aging population frets over Social Security; our youthful population worries about the debt they'll be saddled with in the years to come. We have evidently just re-elected the President who has presided over the greatest job-loss since the Great Depression, while simultaneously claiming that our economy is dandy. Just dandy. We have lost stock value, market share, and... far more important than anything else ... thousands of troops, contractors and civilians.
And yet ... it seems, we're saying, "Yes!" to FOUR MORE YEARS!
tracy1 asked me on another thread if I was really so abysmally ignorant that I couldn't understand why people would vote for Bush. In a word? Yes. I'm just that abysmally ignorant. Apparently, high SAT scores aren't all they're cracked up to be because, where a "yes" vote on Bush is concerned, I'm dumber than a box of rocks.
I've said I would accept the results of the election, and I will. But I need some sort of angle to help me rationalize a national decision that seems like abject madness to a citizen of the Reality-Based Universe. Since there is no explanation that makes more sense than any other, I think I'll choose my rationalization at random ... and I pick the "Values Vote" as my rationale for the remarkably odd results of our election.
That decision made, I must say... PenDragon? Suck it up, girlfriend! If you, as most of us freaky, pinko Liberals do, hope that our nation will be united once again ... surrender to the magic of being the Godless, Pagan icon that our nation rallies 'round. Today, you are a Saint Candle, $.89 on sale at Hart's. Our Lady of the Despised Class that Promotes National Unity. Burn baby... burn!
Keeping Queers in Their Place is a concept that has an even greater following than the Hula Hoop. A mere 51.000000006% of the nation wants Bush as President, but 75% of those queried agree that Homos Must Be Prevented From Avoiding Probate. This may not seem like much. But it's something. Our nation doesn't agree on many issues, but 75% of voters who get the chance can, at least, agree that Homos oughtn't to be allowed to attend the deathbed of their life-partner.
Think of your role in all this as an important national mission. You have the opportunity to achieve glorious martyrdom in the service of a nation that has chosen an evangelical leader. Take it. Your mere existence, and mine, may be the very thing that unites our nation once again ... and this is what we pinkos always say we want, is it not?
Maybe we'll resolve to say "no" to the last round of flaming blue shots, next time we're all planning our upcoming Life Lessons at the Angel Bar. (Personal Note: Let's avoid passing out and hitting all the flippers as we topple off the Angel Barstool next time, eh?) But at least three monthly payments on the revolving karmic debt plan will be forgiven in recognition of our willing compliance with our current role.
Meanwhile, CNN is refusing to call this election, so I think I'll go to bed. When I wake up in the morning, I'm going to be a citizen of Hillbilly Nation. Thanks to this BBS, this vote, and Hillbilly, I now understand the mind-set of the majority, the nation; and I understand the official definition of the FACTS.
I'll be needing my rest to cope with this ... but cope? I will.
We've lived for +/- a half-century in this cut 'n paste nation, PenDragon, and we will continue to do so. We'll do our dishes, raise our kids, mow our lawns ... and if that means John Deere gets boycotted as a homosexual menace because we drive its company tractors, so be it.
The fact that our nation has officially registered it's disapproval of people like you and me is different ... how? They actually went behind a curtain and secretly pressed The Button, which is different from secretly gathering in their living rooms to gossip about us ... how?
I know who I am. The people who know me, my friends and family, know who I am. In fact, they know me well enough to call me on my on my own bull**** (daily), but I can respect that because, at least, they have the nerve to do it to my face.
Ain't no smarmy Republican who slides behind a poll curtain to tell me he was "only voting for the Righteous Cause" gonna take my self-respect away.
And if you think about it, PenDragon, I hope you could say the foregoing statement is true for you too.

You do understand, don't you, that the (anti-) gay marriage amendments in various states were there merely as part of the Republican election strategy to turn out the vote?
In Oklahoma's case, and I suspect in other states as well, the provisions of the amendment that passed overwhelmingly already were in the law. It was redundant. But it sure helped to turn out the Christian conservative vote that elected Republicans to the U.S. Senate and Congress. The Senate race had been predicted to be very close, but it was blown wide open.
So, how does it feel having that as a "get out the vote" tactic? That's really all it was .... but with a statement of intolerance slapped on a sizable segment of the population.

Hermit...you are a real dipsh*t. You always will be. What rights do I have that these people don't have? Oh are you talking about the marriage issue? I never opposed it. If they want to marry each other it would not effect me one way or the other. However this election was not JUST about gays wanting to marry each other. I felt NO obligation to support Kerry JUST so the gays could marry each other. I know many gays that supported and voted BUSH. As individuals (gay status aside) these people were looking at the whole picture...not just the part of the picture that would serve "SELF"!
Gloating? Not really.....I am just glad this election is almost over. You are just a sore loser.....but hey you are not alone...All of your friends will gather with you at the Copa and ya'll can enjoy your pity party together.
I'm surprised that you feel I have no friends....but that's okay. It does not change my life any....I suppsoe if that helps you feel better about yourself...thinking you know about my circle of friends...then hey....enjoy the thoughts.
Oh....and Hermit...who is Brad? Evidently you think someone else is the Hillbilly? Perhaps that is why all the times you think you have seen me in town without friends you were looking at someone else? Not that it matters....Eureka changes quite often and there are times we are in town and we are among several friends and there are times we prefer to be by ourselves....a lot of our past Eureka friends have moved away...ask Lita..she can name quite a few of them...but since we have only been to Eureka about six times this whole year.....you obviously are talking out of your ass again to think you know anything about me at all. I do howver know exactly who you are, where you live and other things about you and I am impressed.
AS I told you before...next time I see you...I will make it a point to introduce myself and provide you with that face to face discussion you desire. In the meantime....get someone to help you pull your head out of your ass,,,,,take a few prozac and quit sulking! Enjoy your Copa pity party!

It's not ok Ken. It's not ok! It will never be ok. It cannot be justified. I will assauge your fears here dearest Kim and shout a resounding "We're here, we're queer, get used to it!" No one can take away my self respect. I've worked too long and hard too actually have it.
Apparently not one of these spineless wonders (not Ken, nor Scott nor even that slack jawed cretin Eureka Rebel) have the gonads to come and face me, face to face with their grinning jacken apes prejudice and tell me in person how right they are about my life. (I have the destinct impression that if ER ever had the gonads to face the people he persecutes he would bring a weapon with him in his slithering cowardess. At least Ken and Scott have the guts to stand behind their own names. Let me try to respond in reverse order to your questions, if I may.
Still proud to be an American? You bet I am. This nation always has had ugly warts (slavery, discrimination against women, etc.) and it always, eventually, has made dramatic strides to right itself. One or two existing warts do not make everything else this nation means to me worthless.
Still proud to be a Republican? That takes a more nuanced answer, for sure. The party was clever enough to exploit a sensitive area and go almost undetected in the process. That's what political parties do, as distasteful as it is at times. I personally find little to agree with in the right-wing-driven platform of the party as it has become. You need to keep in mind that I voted for President Bush primarily for his hawkish approach to terrorism, not for aiding the Republican party. My votes for U.S. Senator and U.S. Congressman went in a futile effort for Democrats.
I prefer to stay within the party, however, and try to work with others to wrest it back away from the grip of the religious right. If I can work with like-minded people to help pull the Republicans towards the center and if you can do the same with the Democrats, it will be far easier for the nation to listen, thoughtfully consider and reach compromise or consensus on issues that now divide us.
You also asked why all this is okay, that you could be thought of as an expendable human being. That's not okay with me at all. My vote in Oklahoma on the gay marriage ban was with the distinct minority and I was appalled at the final numbers.
But you were exploited for political gain, just as other minority groups have been throughout the nation's history. That doesn't make it "right", but this type of exploitation can be a precursor of change. Sometimes the oppressed have to get really abused before others buy into the concept of improving their lot.
I will be expressing my disgust with local and state party officials once they stop gloating. Then I will work with others to shift the leadership and direction of the party.
Finally, you ask how all this makes me feel good about myself. Please understand, PenDragon, I was acting in the role of whistle-blower, not advocate, when I shared the tactic here of using the gay marriage issue as a turn-out-the-vote device.
There is no smugness here. While one hand gives a thumbs up for cleverness, the other is working to use it as a tool for change.
Like most people, I have gay friends and family members that I love and respect. Unlike many people these days, I'm not afraid to admit it. I'm not capable of walking in your shoes, but I think I understand enough to empathize with your anger and your dismay. I'm just choosing to work the problem from the opposite end of the stick from you.
Like someone else wrote here earlier, perhaps with Bush being a lame duck, now he will be a little less likely to be such a kiss-ass to the religious right. Perhaps. His personal position on this particular issue seemed to soften some in the past week according to a snippet of some news report I overheard.
I want to help apply pressure from within the party for change. I don't have that many good connections or a lot of money, but I understand more than the average bear about how the system works and I'm willing to wade into the battleground with the assets I do have.
I'm not looking for your respect or anyone else's. I'm looking to be a small part of a positive historical change lifting another barrier of discrimination. It's not the end, PenDragon. It's a beginning if you want to make it so.

Maybe you can effect some change there in Oklahoma. I can only hope and pray for your sake. You are going to be fighting a severe uphill battle. I saw the numbers for OK. I know the far right (and proud of it)positions of the men they just sent to Washington. The people of Oklahoma gave them a resounding thumbs up. That's pretty scary.
Ken, I am not angry, I am deeply hurt. It feels like a stake through my heart. I am wounded. That is why I ask these questions of those who voted for Bush. I know that people like Eureka Rebel feel a certain sadistic glee in seeing my pain, but I know that neither you nor Scott are that cruel and heartless. I know you don't get sadistic kicks out of kicking other people down and then spitting on them like ER's mob mentality does.
I kind of feel like Zeek does. It's time to take my American flag down and forget about the American Dream. I just got told I have no right to any of it. Ken it's not fun being the flavor of the month (or decade) political scapegoat. It sincerely hurts. I am too old (and worn out and poor) for all this now.

I do not use weapons of ANY kind, and have no desire to face you or your gay friends and tell you ANYthing. You keep out of my way and I shall keep out of yours. You have some brass ones yourself, PD, to keep insuiniting you know ANYthing about me, except I voted for Bush and I have no use for "your kind". I have a profound love for thre underdog, kid's, animals, the elderly, JUST NOT QUEERS.

Studies have been conducted that show those whose homophobia is as rampant as rebel's here, are harboring the deepest fear of their own homosexual tendancies. I can bring up the several links for these studies if that would help.

Yes, that must be it - I really have a deep desire to be a Queer. NOT. But I wasn't BORN that way. Isn't that YOUR excuse, Lesbian Gayle - GOD made you that way? To that I say Bull $hit. You CHOSE to be QUEER and you know it. Don't bother posting your links - I know my sexual orientation. I chose it, just like you did.
I also voted FOR the Marriage Ban amendment. Like PattM said, if we let you homos marry, the old rednecks might wanna marry their coon dog. That's about as appealing to me as two fellows getting hitched.

I did not say that, it was a quote.
First of all, learn to read. Then, we'll talk.

It was MY quote and I read just fine, thank you. You, like Gay Gayle get on my last nerve. All your self-rightous BS makes me ill.

That's strange, I was born straight, have always been straight. No choice was involved. There was never any question at all, I was made that way. I'm curious. Was it a tough decision? Did it take you a long time to come to that decision, or did you settle on it rather quickly? What was it about being gay that you didn't like?
Becky, Stump Broke? LOL. I'm buying lunch. Come on up.

I said you chose to be QUEER and that is what got you beat up and your head cracked open. And I don't beat up queers, or anyone else for that matter. You people take me for a real 'neck, don't you? All because I "dare" to speak out against homos. I have a right to my opinion on the subject the same as you do.
Hey, don't be mean to Becky. Otay
