Hop, hop, hop to conclusions that sound good, but may not be true.
How many times do dumb bunnies have to re-learn this anew?
Everytime we hear a story that makes someone look bad,
We seem to become pious judges who are secretly glad.
Glad that we're not the one caught being wrong?
Or glad there's a new subject to beat like a gong?
Whatever the story, it's reaction is righteous gasps and shock;
"Why, how could they do or say that?" ...does anyone think this might be a crock?
No, not usually because people like to believe the worst.
It's this "from the hip" judgement that ruins reputations first.
By the time the truth of the matter is finally ferreted out,
No one is interested enough in the real truth to bother about.
By then, it's old news, you know...people have made their decision.
Folks are looking for the next big story; there'll be no revision.
Turns out it was the wild rantings of a disgruntled loon,
But someone's reputation won't be cleared up anytime soon.
Don't you find it amazing an out of towner's story would be believed first?
Instead of a local citizen, one of our peers, who has all but been cursed?
If it has something to do with tourism, will the tourist first be believed?
Does one or the other provide witnesses for the truth to be achieved?
It's a quandary, to be sure.
Just watch all that flying fur.
That's when I wish I had an income not connected to guests,
So I could just sit on the porch waving and not miss all this mess.
