All right, now let's get down to cases.
I hope we can all have happy faces.
In 5 short months we shall enter "the holiday season."
What ads have we to bring folks for a really good reason?
Not that the town on its own isn't charming enough,
But attracting tourists year round has truly gotten tough.
Hopefully, the holiday ducks are all in a row,
Just ready to be published and quacking they go.
Oooh, I hope I don't hear a big collective sighing:
What's that pig stirring up now; why isn't she out flying?
Because when I think of promotionless holidays past,
It makes me wonder how much longer we can all last.
Remember a few years ago when a promotion for pre-holiday shopping
Combined with festive wreathes on shops to tell folks here's a discount worth stopping?
It was advertised way in advance
The way cotillions would for their dance.
There was at least one weekend where sales tax on purchases was free.
That brought a lot of out of town shoppers here, including me.
I still get questions during the traditional time of holiday shopping,
If we aren't still having the no-tax sales days and why is it stopping?
I hate to tell our wanna be shopping visitors it hasn't happened in years,
Because I hope it will be revived as an annual sale... better than Sears.
It's amazing how people will remember when we had that tax free sale
And are anxious to drive here as if they were delivering the mail.
So now is the time to start doing more than planning for our holiday rush,
Before the current season and its pressure turns our best interests to mush.
Ask those in charge of holiday ads and promotion what they are doing,
Or at the end of the year, it will be a repeat of last year's boo-hooing.
I hope we can all have happy faces.
