Just what is "affordable housing" and where does HUD come in?

"Affordable housing" is bureaucratic bafflegab for the NIMBYEST of the NIMBY issues. It is the tiger in the hat trick when you were expecting a rabbit.

Coupled with the gutting of the Historic District Commission, it means a lot of 19th century back yards may find 21st century tickytacky apartments towering over them or a neighborhood of Mansard roofs, corbels and gables converted to one room apartments with big parking lots.

Coupled with a determination to keep wages low, one of the two official Chamber of Commerce business challenges confronting Eureka Springs tourism, "affordable housing" means low rent to the occupants and high rents to the landlords with taxpayers making up the difference.

Are the Planning and Board of Zoning Commissioners agreeable to any of this?
