These two cats have tested positive for FIV so can't mingle with the other shelter cats. Also they must be adopted as inside cats. FIV (immune system disorder) is only mildly contagious and is transmitted through bite wounds, not through food, saliva, grooming, etc. Cats can live many years (10 or more) with the disease but most will eventually succumb if they live long enough. These two guys are very sweet and deserve a chance at life. A sponsor will pay the adoption fee If someone will give them a good home. If you or someone you know can provide such a home please PM me or call the shelter at 479-253-8763.

Yes they are. A person has stepped forward to finance a second test to be sure the first was not a false positive which can occur. If they test positive again then unless they find a home very quickly they will probably be euthanized rather than languish in small cages at the shelter. We now have six cats that have tested positive and all will be retested. They are all healthy now and none are showing any clinical signs of the disease at this time. If the second test is positive then we must assume they do have FIV. This means that their immune system will gradually deteriorate and they could eventually succumb to some disease. I will post photos of the others.
