Reputation is a way to reward (or bop) each other for our posts. Each time somebody approves of your post, you get points added to your reputation. If somebody disapproves of your post, points are taken away.

You can add/deduct points on any post AND add a comment if you wish. All reputation awards & deductions and all comments are shown on the main page of User CP. (So, no this isn't anonymous.)

These instructions removed. Ignore them: Reputation is turned on by default. To participate, first turn on your own Reputation. Go to User CP - Edit Options. Check the box that says, "Show my reputation." Scroll to the bottom of the page and press "Save Changes."

To give Reputation to another member, click the scales icon (top left of each post.) You'll get a screen that allows you to approve or disapprove and add a comment.

These are the Reputation levels:

Points less than zero:
User is infamous around these parts
User can only hope to improve
User has a little shameless behaviour in the past

Zero points: User is an unknown quantity at this point

Points greater than zero:
User is on a distinguished road
User will become famous soon enough
User has a spectacular aura about
User is a jewel in the rough
User is just really nice
User is a glorious beacon of light
User is a name known to all
User is a splendid one to behold
User has much to be proud of
User has a brilliant future
User has a reputation beyond repute

We'll figure out some sort of fabulous prizes(!) for reaching new Reputation levels. :)

Kim,
I can't find this option in the CP | Options.

Go to User CP

Edit Options (left column)

Look in the right column. You'll see "Login & Privacy." Second checkbox down in the login & privacy box is reputation.

This is Eureka right? Those should be "Karma points" and "smite ye Karma" should be used to steal Karma points away...lol just a thought. I don't even know if it is an administrative option.

Ah. Nevermind. My mistake. Reputation is automatically enabled for all users.

So, we don't know who determines our reputation?
And when you click on them they go to the post they are judging you on?
And green is good... and no color is bad?

Lorda mercy... didn't know our reputations would be at stake on the new board!

I guess I'd best be "nice" or... not... I am not one dimensional.. don't think any of us are.. well....

You do know who determines your reputation. I'll give you some reputation (c'mere baby!).

OK ... now go click User CP and scroll down. You should see a reputation comment from me.

If reputations points are attained thru posts how can newbies that have not posted already have a "reputation"? Do new members start with a favorable rep? Inquiring minds would like to know. Gracias.

I have some points but can't see who gave them. I did what I was told but no luck.

I can see which post it was "awarded" on and the comments but not who gave left them.

Good grief! I just found my reputations. Interesting..
I just don't quite know what to make of it now.. it's like an undercurrent. Can everyone read all of the comments?

Just is so.... Runway project.. or Survivor... mmmmm....

And some have a green, others a gray box in front.. mostly of the ones that didn't seem to care much for me, but others, which were nice comments also have the gray box... some are without comment.. just who, what comment.. but no comment on it.

Anybody understand that part.. and why, on the thread, where people have lots of green boxes.. some are lighter green.. ???

See you later... heading home lord willin, and the snow don't fly.

Just guessing but maybe the point value is tied to the reputation of the one approving the post. Example John Doe in the unknown quanity range approves of your post and adds to your reputation you may get a point or two but Jane Doe, with a reputation beyond repute might add up to say thirty, forty points. As I said before this is all speculation.

AT, that's as good a thought as any. I've wondered about that, too. As I said before, some people have two or three greens as soon as their first post hits and others, who may have been here forever may still not have two or three.

Patt, I noticed that the greens are in groups of five. I guess the different shades of green are easier to count by counting in fives. Ya think?

It's all geek to me.. late night puns can be pretty stupid.

Thanks for the guesses.. I keep forgetting to 'vote' for my favorite posts!
Can't get the hang of it.. I suppose it will come to me.. just like push button phones ... then wireless, now cells.. the technology is moving faster than my boggled mind... hmm haven't played boggle in a long time..

ok.. that's good night!

Tho my reputation says I have a bunch of good reps.. it only shows a few, the old ones stay, and just one or two show up, while the numbers are going way up... more than one or two a day..
and if I try to give a thumbs up to some one, that I recently had given one.. it says I must spread them around.. who's rules are these? Did they come with the program.. must we get with the program, in order to play?

bla bla bla, ginger....
