Not yet, but it will be unfurled for Diversity Weekend:

Thanks to an anonymous monetary donation, the cooperation of City Hall and an outpouring of public support, a Diversity Weekend banner will hang above Spring and Main Streets next week for the first time in history.

The banner is now in production and is scheduled for lift off by the ES Public Works Department on Tuesday, March 29 and will stay up until April 5.

The cost of the banner is $597 and is being produced by Marie Turnock of Spiderwoman Graphics under a very tight deadline.

A $500 pledge from an anonymous donor and $100 from me will cover the cost.

HOWEVER, some businesses and individuals have expressed an interest in contributing to the effort. The reasoning is that those who benefit from Diversity Weekend--local businesses and residents alike--should have an opportunity to invest in what is really an historic achievement.

So, contributions in any amount--$1, $5, $20, $50--will be accepted at the following locations:

* Paypal (preferred; include the message "Banner Fund"): Send the donation to wtfocker@gmail.com via this link>>> https://www.paypal.com/sendmoney

* 'Nother Fockers, 1 Spring Street (253-7879)

* Fusion Squared, 84 Spring Street (253-4999)

* A Byrd's Eye View, 36 N. Main Street (253-0200)

* Henri's Just One More, 19 1/2 Spring Street (253-5795)

Or, you can send me a private message via Geekfest and I'll pick up your donation.

Caveats: Donations are not tax deductible. Since this effort was launched on Geekfest just days ago, there is no Diversity Weekend Banner bank account. After Paypal, cash is easiest and you will receive a receipt from me as long as you include your contact information. I'll take checks if I have to, but they will need to be made out to Michael Walsh. I'll ask Kim Yonkee at W.T. Focker's to serve as verification accountant.

All donations will go toward the expense of one or more Summer Diversity Weekend projects in August.

Contributors will be acknowledged by name on Geekfest (unless anonymity is preferred) and maybe in The Citizen, if the paper deems the effort newsworthy.

The gay community in Eureka Springs has made great strides in recent years--a non-discrimination employment policy, the Domestic Partnership Registry, access to health insurance for the domestic partners of city workers, family leave for city workers with domestic partners and, now, an out-and-proud banner publicly acknowledging Diversity Weekends.

Please help to keep the momentum going.

Thank you,
Michael Walsh
