I lost my Health Insurance in 2008. Went to have a scary skin growth cut off and biopsied. It cost $500. $250 for the doc to shoot novocaine and then cut the spot, $250 for the lab to look at the cells.
After that, I realized that my skin will kill me before my other bad habits do, as I don't have the moolah to spend whenever something looks wrong -- and it often does.
The kicker about this, is that about 3 months after I had this done, the Docs office contacted me and said "We calculated the fee wrong, and you actually owe us $5.00 more before we'll consider your account current." I said, "Gosh, when I buy a TV at Best Buy, and I pay as I leave the store, they don't contact me months later to say "Ooops, that TV actually cost more than that. Pay up!" She said she would go ahead and wipe the $5 off my account, but was very nasty about it. GEEZ!
I know an old man who says that he used to go to the vet when things went wrong and that the vet was cheaper and more down to earth. I've often wondered if the vet would charge the same to cut a growth off of me that he'd charge to cut a growth off of my dog...
